Julian Nagelsmann’s agent has explained why his client declined the chance to become the manager of Chelsea, despite being sacked by Bayern Munich in March.

After Graham Potter was fired following a poor campaign, Nagelsmann was tipped to replace him at Stamford Bridge. However, he spoke to Chelsea and ultimately decided not to accept the offer, which allowed Mauricio Pochettino to take over. In an interview with the Bold Phrasenmaher podcast, Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth, revealed that Nagelsmann made the decision not to go, citing Chelsea’s current troubles and their transfer policy, which has raised expectations that must be met.

Despite Tottenham’s initial interest, Nagelsmann remains without work.

Pochettino facing Chelsea challenge

As for Chelsea, they are preparing for life under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to overhaul the squad during the summer transfer window. Despite spending heavily over the past year, the club has had a dismal season and is in danger of finishing outside the top half of the table. Pochettino will be the fourth manager to lead Chelsea during the Todd Boehly era, following in the footsteps of Thomas TuchelGraham Potter, and interim boss Frank Lampard, who was appointed temporarily at the end of the season. Fans are hoping for a significant improvement next season and are expecting the team to at least challenge for a top-four finish.
