Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku will “love” going back to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

According to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku will relish the opportunity to return to Stamford Bridge this summer. Lukaku was signed by the Blues for a Premier League record fee from Inter in the summer of 2021 but struggled with injury problems and disappointing form in his first season. While he has fared somewhat better on loan back at Inter this season, it looks unlikely that he will remain with the club beyond this summer. With Chelsea likely to ask for a significant transfer fee, there are reportedly few options for the Belgian striker. Wright believes that Lukaku has unfinished business at Chelsea and would relish the opportunity to return to the club and prove his critics wrong.

Lukaku’s value has plummeted

Romelu Lukaku’s Expected Transfer Value (xTV) has dropped to €45m, having peaked at €141m in January 2021, months before his move to Chelsea. This indicates a significant drop in his market value, which could be attributed to his injury problems and disappointing form in his first season with Chelsea. Lukaku’s recent performance in Inter’s Champions League semi-final against Milan, where he was unthreatening in his 20-minute appearance, may also have contributed to this drop in value. Despite his high transfer fees throughout his career, totaling €333m, no player in world football has been sold for more money than Lukaku.
