Last summer, Chelsea made a bid of €63.25 million for Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez, which was rejected by Ajax.

Despite the Blues’ prolonged interest in the player, the Dutch club refused to sell him. In January of this year, Chelsea again showed interest in Alvarez, offering €51.25 million, but Ajax remained steadfast in their refusal to cooperate. It is widely expected that Alvarez will be leaving Ajax soon, as he has made it clear that he wants to depart from the club and has attracted interest from several top European clubs.

This is not the first time that he has expressed a desire to leave, as he had already attempted to force his way out when Chelsea pursued him a year ago.

Where will Alvarez go this summer?

It seems Borussia Dortmund is currently in the best position to sign Edson Alvarez this summer, but they may face competition from Bayern Munich. However, any move to Bayern may depend on the club’s ability to sell other players, including Marcel Sabitzer, who is currently on loan at Manchester United. Manchester United appears to prefer signing free agent Adrien Rabiot rather than paying €25 million for Sabitzer at this stage. Alvarez is seen as a strong partner for Joshua Kimmich due to his tactical discipline and strength in duels. According to De Telegraaf, Ajax may not receive as much money for Alvarez this summer as they would have last year, with an estimated price of around €40 million. Both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are reportedly willing to pay this amount for the 25-year-old Mexican.
