Manchester United are considering a summer swoop for Porto’s Diogo Costa as a possible replacement for David de Gea – but they may have to match the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper.

Manchester United is reportedly considering a move for Porto’s Diogo Costa as a possible replacement for David de Gea, whose recent high-profile errors have left the team at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification and fueled speculation over his future. However, United may have to match the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper, which currently stands at €80m, paid by Chelsea for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2019. Porto is said to be unwilling to sell Costa, who emerged from the club’s academy and took over the number one spot last season, for anything less. The 23-year-old Portugal international has continued to impress this season, keeping 15 clean sheets in the Primeira Liga, the third-most in the league. While De Gea‘s recent performances have increased doubts over his future as the team’s number one, United is also reportedly keen on extending his stay at Old Trafford.
