Former Manchester United star, Juan Mata, is returning to the city to curate an art exhibition focused on football.

The Galatasaray player left United in 2022 but will attend this year’s Manchester International Festival. Along with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Mata will produce new works inspired by the Trequartista, a legendary football position similar to a modern No.10.

Mata said that he is thrilled to co-curate “The Trequartista – Art and Football United” with Obrist over the next two years, bringing together two of his passions: the worlds of football and art.

The 34-year-old Spaniard, who joined the Premier League in 2011 when he signed for Chelsea from Valencia, is known for his artistry on the pitch as well, having won numerous trophies with both Chelsea and Manchester United.
